Keeping Your New Years Resolution (or Goals)
How many of you are already starting to falter or slide on your New Years resolutions?
I know some of you are already in that precarious slide of cheating or leaving your New Years resolutions already. How do I know? Because I am one of the ones who is riding that slippery slope. I admit I did not call my decisions resolutions, I chose the term goals simply because it has more of a life changing feel to it. But lets be honest for a second….
Most resolutions or goals fail because of lack of planning. It is great to have a resoultion or goal, but how are you going to get from point A to point B? Yesterday, I set a goal for the month of January, but today I had the sudden realization that I had no idea how I was actually going to get it done. I had a vague idea, but no real concrete plan of action.
So if you are like me, take the time to set up a plan of action. Determine how you are going to make those goals and resolutions happen. And no excuses! I admit I tend to fall on the excuse of “my life was busy” and I got “caught up in other stuff,” but if life keeps getting in the way I will never get anything done.
And that is exactly what all that is - an excuse. So today I am going to make my plan and here is exactly how I am going to do it….
- What is my goal? (and make sure it is reasonable)
- Have I set this goal before, and if I did why did I fail in meeting it?
- How can I do things different this time?
- What steps do I need to take to meet my goal?
- What do I need to change in my life to meet my goal?
- Are there others that can motivate me or help me reach my goal?
Hopefully breaking things down, and cutting out the excuses will help me (and you) keep and reach our New Years Resolutions and Goals!
